I'm black, you have a problem with that?

"Paiye 'gorapan' sirf saat dinon mein!!"
"Fair and Lovely, nikhri twacha ke liye"
"Fair and Handsome, mardon ki fairness cream"

Why, only the fair like you, can be handsome? What's wrong with being dark? I don't have a problem with that! I was born dark and would not want to change it with your stupid 'fairness' cream (it doesn't work anyway :P). Why are you always behind me wanting to see me fair? I love my color and would want you to accept my shade, no matter how 'shady' I am! Why can't you accept the words 'black' and 'beauty' together?

It's not my fault that I got my father's dark chromosomes instead of my mother's snow-white ones. Even if I had a choice, inki-pinki-ponki would've been the method of selection back then, for I was unaware of all this 'coloral discrimination' which I was going to face!
Those dark heroes and heroines are ainvayi made to wear a thick layer of make-up, just to satisfy your need to see everyone fair on screen. See, how fair Bipasha and Kajol have become now!

You can always change your religion, language or even sex, to overcome the discrimination based on the corresponding factor. But you cant 'convert' into a fair person overnight, can you? I don't have a choice here. I would've gone to Jantar-Mantar to protest against the khulle-aam discrimination going on everywhere: ads, movies, serials, day-to-day life: just that the venue is not free these days: some people want to help me get a drivers' license without bribing the RTO, which is a good thing..I can wait...

What is even more sad is that even the constitution does not protect us! Either stop thinking of it as a disability or give us 'dark' quota seats in all the government offices and educational institutions. Enough with the humiliation and rejection. I seek support from the Human Rights' Commission for fighting for the cause. And why is the media not taking this up? Not even Aaj Tak?

And for the information of all you people who make fun of us out there, "No, we didn't get the color because of over-exposure to the sun", "All blacks are not south indians", "Our kids need not be born black. It's more complicated than you think: a permutation-combination problem", "No, this is not called 'racial discrimination', when I say black, I don't mean the apartheid black", "Yes, we try everything from fairness creams to gharelu nuskhas to become fair, but we do it for you, your mentality is to be blamed here".

All I am asking for, is a little bit of your tolerance to our color, understanding the fact that it is not in our hands. I do not expect sympathy, but respect. Accept us as your friends, boyfriends, sons and daughters. Give us a fair chance to live and succeed in our lives, so that we could be stinking rich and afford those fairness treatments!

  1. Author's Note: This post is not meant to be taken seriously. I am a black but happy guy with a lot of fair friends and NO, I didn’t get dumped by my girlfriend recently, for being dark (in color).
